March Spring Weekend

I don’t want to speak too soon but I’m hoping that our Winter hibernation is officially over for the year.  Judging by the weather we were blessed with this weekend, I’d say we were on the way to a spectacular summer! However, this silvery lining is still attached to a dirty great cloud- If we’re skating in teeshirts on the first weekend in March, you KNOW something is seriously wrong with the planet.

The weekend began in earnest on Friday night as Wheat, Taylor, Celso and myself took a leap of faith to Iceland skatepark in Mississauga. Would the lights indeed be ‘on’? Would we end up driving all the way back into town to drown our sorrows instead? Fortunately as we dipped under the highway we caught the glare of the floodlights on the horizon and our hopes were revived! Some areas of the park still had small piles of snow in, but I’d say at least 80% of the park was exposed and our session was good to go.

Huy arrived after about an hour (Blädr messageboard working its magic once again) and took some photos for us.

Chow’s Surprise Birthday Recap

I know you are a salesman Chow, but with all the wrenches you threw in your surprise birthday plans, you’d make one helluva mechanic. Many thanks to everyone who made it out, and especially Rebecca for organizing such a gangbuster of hootenanny. Sa da tay.

Sifted through a bunch of photos from the party, and I’m posting my favorites below. Check out the rolltoronto flickr for the rest of the night’s pics.

That most travelled of roads.

Iceland Ho! The unseasonably warm weather brought on by our parents using too much hairspray as kids has left us dealing with the bizarre and alien concept of rollerblading in November. What gives? Last winter we were making snow angels and heading to Blue Mountain, but as I type this the temperature is rising to a high for today of 10 degrees and we’ve yet to spend any significant time below zero. The downward spiral of the planet seems to suit us just fine at the moment; rollerblading outdoors continues in 2009, and long may it do so.

Wednesday saw a pretty large turnout for what might have been one of the last Iceland skates of the year. All of these photos were taken by Huy Le.

Kevin Chow with a grabbed fastslide.

Jonny and Blair skated the hard side of the rough ledge, Jonny back royaling through the corner.

For a change, I did a topsoul.

Lee powered through a back farv to fakie.

That’s it for this post; In the next week or so we have a new video edit from Dan and Taylor, Corey might have some clips together to post, Kevin is working on a review of his shiny new skates and Dave’s hair will get even longer. Stay tuned! Also, check out our friend Robert Guerrero in action… Dude is Top 5 best.
