Ruh roh… Spoke too soon?

Uh oh. Just when you thought it was safe to break out the teeshirts and tuck your wellington boots away for another year, along comes a rainy weekend to remind you that March ain’t over bub- and you could still easily be caught unawares.

Things seemed alright on Thursday night as Boyle, Corey, Ghent, Erik and I met to skate the downtown core. While windy, the first spot failed to turn into a bust and we had a decent 45 minute rollabout before the windtunnel we were skating in between buildings proved too much to bear.

Boyle ended up dominating a few spots downtown; While Dave and I were back royaling up the Hilton rail (Erik nearly squashed a woman with a back farv) Boyle stuck a sweet front farv to 540 out.

After that we wandered around a bit enjoying the warmth of the core and cruising the streets, ending up at the Starbucks ledge which I LOVE. Erik started our session off by fastplanting off the box to topacid.

Erik was like an excitable child on a sugar rush, jiggling around skating every object in sight. While the rest of us had switched back to shoes, Erik simply didn’t want to stop and I ended up semi-capturing a shot of him skating the black marble curved ledges in Nathan Phillips’ Square.

Goodbyes were said by the LCBO, where Erik, Dave and I headed to Corey’s new apartment to shoot the breeze and admire the view. GOD I LOVE TORONTO.

With the rain having set in, Saturday’s vert playdate at CJ’s skatepark seemed like perfect timing. While I heavily dislike the rest of the park, the vert ramp makes me compromise my ideals every single time. I’m a vert dog and I know it. I finally met Alex Armbruster, who was locking alleyoop topsides on the 11 ft high coping like he’d been doing them his whole life.

And of course all round professor of style and taste Mr. Campbell was there and in fine form, educating us both on the correct way to fishbrain a vert ramp.

Lets hope the weather picks up over the next few days, I’m really itching to skate some street again… although- I’m going to be skating vert again on Wednesday night, maybe see you there?
